NEWIEE was founded in Boston in 2008 to promote and encourage women in New England in the energy and environmental sectors. Made up of members from both the public and private sector, NEWIEE is a forum for networking, sharing of information and mentoring.

The 2016 Gala was an award night dedicated to honor and celebrate the achievements of women in the New England Energy and Environment industry. Mary Powell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Green Mountain Power, delivered the keynote, and Jacquie Ashmore presented awards to Cynthia Arcate, President and CEO of PowerOptions; Marion Gold, Ph.D., Commissioner of Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources; and Penni McLean-Conner, Chief Customer Office and Senior VP Customer Group of Eversource Energy. Abigail Krich, president of Boreas Renewables LLC, received the NEWIEE Rising Star Award presented in honor and memory of Allison Smith.

The awardees gave inspiring speeches on their backgrounds and encouraged the attendees to help more women be decision makers in an industry heavily dominated by men. The sold out Gala was inspirational and (re)connected women of all ages working in the energy and environmental sector. Heartfelt thanks to NEWIEE for organizing and promoting this important celebration of New England women!
